Description

Lara Marcou & Marc Vittecoq, Le Groupe O<div> "What are you doing after the citizens' assembly? - I'm going to see Sophocles' latest play, it's supposed to be fantastic." This 2500-year-old dialogue, found on a shard of glass, plunges us into the time of the first Greek tragedies as well as that of Athenian democracy.</div><div><br></div><div> In the midst of the election campaign, Le Groupe O takes us back to 5th-century BC Greece to examine the democratic process. In Athens, a segment of the population made direct decisions: they voted on laws, war, and peace. This is the complete opposite of our current systems of representation. From this discrepancy arises a friction between past and present, shedding new light on our relationship to power.</div><div><br></div><div> On stage, fiction and history intertwine: citizens in debate, fragments of public life, or even Sophocles in rehearsal. The theater becomes a space where thought is tested. With a touch of mischief, Tragédie Démocratie offers a mise en abyme, where the paradoxes of yesterday reveal the fractures of today.</div>
