Claudio Monteverdi's masterpiece, The Return of Ulysses to his Homeland, marks one of the great births of Venetian opera in the 17th century.<div> Inspired by the Odyssey, the work recounts the hero's return to Ithaca after twenty years of absence. While Penelope remains faithful despite the suitors who covet her throne, Odysseus returns incognito, forced to reclaim his identity, his family, and his kingdom. For this new production at the Opéra de Massy, ​​resident choreographer Anne Nguyen offers a contemporary interpretation of the myth. Odysseus appears as a man marked by war and exile, almost a migrant who has seen it all, guided by inner forces embodied by urban dancers. In this world blending song, dance, and theater, human passions and the whims of fate collide. In the pit, the musicians of Opera Fuoco are conducted by David Stern.
