Guitar Concertos<div> Both virtuosic and lyrical, Heitor Villa-Lobos's Concerto for Guitar and Small Orchestra, composed in 1951, is considered one of the greatest guitar concertos in the repertoire. The richness of this great Brazilian composer's musical personality, characterized by a profound melodic sense combined with a certain rhythmic primitivism reminiscent of Stravinsky, is expressed here with particular acuity and a unique sweep. Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez (1939) evokes the gardens of the Royal Palace of Aranjuez, near Madrid, in a dance-like and melancholic music that has become emblematic of Spain.
