Description

Notre-Dame de Paris, behind the scenes of history
The emotion aroused in 2019 around the world by the fire at Notre-Dame de Paris showed us, if it were necessary, that this masterpiece of Gothic architecture is part of the timeless heritage of Humanity, beyond its primary religious vocation.

From the beginning of its construction in the 12th century until the reopening ceremony on December 7, 2024, the building, which is striking for its majestic towers, pointed arches, exceptional stained glass windows and rose windows, has witnessed many major historical events, such as the marriage of Henry IV, the coronation of Napoleon or the Liberation of Paris in 1944.

The Cathedral has also inspired many artists over the centuries: musicians, painters or writers, first and foremost Victor Hugo with his novel Notre-Dame de Paris, published in 1831, which itself influenced many other works.

For his fourth collaboration with the Taverny Orchestral Ensemble, Franck Ferrand tells us this prodigious epic, illustrated with music ranging from Gregorian chant to musical comedy, from Renaissance motets to Queen and from Louise Bertin, with her opera La Esmeralda, to Claude Debussy and the Disney studios.
