Makrokosmos
To bookDescription
Presented by Scène Watteau-Pavillon Baltard (LR-22-013030/34/38) Like works such as Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier, Chopin's études, or Béla Bartók's Mikrokosmos, Makrokosmos aims to offer a kind of manifesto for an instrument that is revisited in a new way. Here, Crumb will explore, even try to exhaust, all the possible techniques he sees in an instrument that has far more than 88 keys. Unusual timbres, scores with alternative notation, references to musical theatre and performance art, and above all, extended pianistic techniques: playing on the strings, with objects, with harmonics and whistles, the piano is transformed into a guitar, an Aeolian harp, an element of nature, into a whole strange orchestra made of new instruments, demonstrating possibilities and sounds it had never before revealed.
