For eight weeks, Gauguin shared Van Gogh's house.
From smiles to disagreements, outdoors and then in the studio, from painting to painting, a relationship is woven, searching for its true rhythm. Two intense men, devoted to painting, meet. Two volcanic personalities surprise each other, enrich each other, and unsettle each other.
On purpose? Against their will? Perhaps each of them is only doing what they can... Or not.

Written under the expert eye of David Haziot, biographer of Van Gogh at Gallimard and of Gauguin at Fayard, Cliff Paillé's play invites us to slip silently into the truth, condensed but faithful, of this tightrope walking closed-door drama.
A passionate, always raw relationship between two pioneers who, unknowingly, were liberating 20th-century art at that time, each in their own style. But at what price?

Created for the Avignon Festival 2025

Lighting design: Yannick Prévost
Costumes: Maxence Rapetti
You know that Van Gogh cut off his ear, but do you know why?
