A medieval royal residence on the outskirts of Paris.<p> A royal residence from the 12th to the 18th centuries, the Château de Vincennes has preserved its walls, medieval towers, Sainte-Chapelle, and its 14th-century keep, the tallest in Europe. Charles V, King of France, had the family manor of Vincennes transformed in 1365 to provide more comfortable living quarters and commissioned the construction of the current keep to house his collections of art and manuscripts. From the early 15th century until the 19th century, the keep served as a prison, a symbol of justice administered in secrecy, where figures such as Fouquet, the Marquis de Sade, and Mirabeau were imprisoned. The Sainte-Chapelle, begun in 1379, offers visitors a remarkable setting and fulfills Charles V's dream of adding an exceptional religious building to the fortress.<br><br> <strong>Please note:</strong></p><p> The ticket gives you access to the entire monument (the Keep and the Sainte Chapelle).<br> Temporary exhibitions are included.<br> You can access the venue at any time of day.<br> An immersive experience is included with your admission ticket: explore the castle at your own pace using a tablet and headphones. This 1.5-hour immersive audio tour will take you through the different periods of its construction.<br><br> Temporary closure of the Sainte-Chapelle: The Sainte-Chapelle is temporarily closed every day during the lunch break between 12pm and 2pm or 1pm and 2pm.
