Presented by QUARTIER LIBRE (L.2-146105) "Classical?" by Victoria Dauberville. CLASSICAL? What is it? Follow a ballerina who literally escapes from her music box to discover a whole new world for herself. To find herself. Like a doll, a symbol of a discipline where every movement is imposed and meticulously measured, the ballerina flees what has shaped her. She discovers herself through numerous encounters. By traversing new spaces, she encounters new worlds, discovers other ways of dancing and other ways of existing on stage. Step by step, how does one break free from the constraints of traditional ballet to find one's own path—a dance that is uniquely hers? A new impulse springs from within. An impulse of the heart. A ballet that's not so classical after all. Without a prince charming, without a predetermined path, without imposed rules. A quest for self, a ballet of turning points. Here, it's not about reproducing an ideal, but about questioning what dancing truly means. With others, with oneself. It's an invitation to see ballet from a new perspective, to try to break free from the framework and conventions, and to make room for the unexpected and for laughter. One more step to get lost, and you find yourself again – (F. Ponge) Victoria Dauberville: “I am a classical dancer, and I tell contemporary stories. Writing this show extends the work I've been doing since 2020: trying to speak with the classical language in the world I live in. Going outside. Having encounters that open my eyes: to my desires, my difficulties, my aspirations. Taking a gamble: forging a path that would be my own, with what I've learned (to dance), but elsewhere. And from these new places, beginning to tell my story.” As a child, I imagined a prima ballerina like this: a crown, a tutu, sequins. With CLASSIQUE?, I invite the audience to join me on stage to continue the story told in my filmed performances on social media. In the special and beautiful time of the performance, I dance my story. Not alone. Other dancers are also the narrators, each with their own unique voice, of this journey. This collective adventure is an extension of the company's creation and a continuation of my choreographic work during the Olympic Games. I am working to create CLASSIQUE? as a succession of scenes in which we follow the twists and turns of a ballerina who doesn't quite fit into the traditional mold but who, out of love for this technique, continues her journey towards new horizons.
