The most beautiful arias and duets of Handel
The most beautiful arias and duets of Handel
To bookDescription
Although born in Germany, Handel delivered his greatest opera serias for the Royal Academy in London.
Having brilliantly appropriated the stylistic innovations he had studied during his trip to Italy, he produced pages that were as moving as they were virtuosic, on par with the true stars he had at his disposal.

Shortly afterwards, he would bring an equal sense of drama and theatricality to his English oratorios – we will hear the great pages of Belshazzar, perhaps the most accomplished of these oratorios. Some arias performed at this concert have entered the repertoire of every singer: the aria Dove sei amato bene or the duet Io t'abbraccio from Rodelinda, V'adoro pupille or Da tempeste from Giulio Cesare.

The undisputed queen of this repertoire, soprano Jeanine de Bique, elevates each line with the shimmering colours of her timbre and with her vocal pyrotechnics which allows her the wildest vocalizations and the most daring nuances.

Alongside him, countertenor Maarten Engeltjes is equally breathtaking, surrounded by his excellent ensemble PRJCT Amsterdam.

Program :

Georg Friedrich Händel • The most beautiful opera arias & duets from Belshazzar, Rodelinda, Giulio Cesare

Performers:
Jeanine de Bique • soprano
PRJCT Amsterdam

Maarten Engeltjes • countertenor and direction
