Description

Pergolesi's Stabat Mater / Mozart's Solemn Vespers

Pergolesi's Stabat Mater

Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, composed in 1736 shortly before his death at the age of 26, is a sacred work for soprano, alto, strings, and basso continuo. It sets to music a medieval Latin text describing the Virgin Mary's suffering at the foot of the cross. The work is celebrated for its poignant expressiveness, melodic beauty, and balance between intimate emotion and religious piety. It is one of the best-known and most beloved Baroque works in the sacred repertoire.

Mozart's Solemn Vespers of a Confessor

Composed in Salzburg in 1780, these Vespers are a liturgical work intended for evening service in the Catholic tradition. They were written for a "confessor," that is, a non-martyr saint, probably Saint Rupert, patron saint of Salzburg. The work is written for choir, soloists, orchestra, and organ.

It comprises six parts, setting to music five psalms and a Magnificat. Mozart combines religious solemnity, contrapuntal richness, and melodic grace. One of the most famous moments is the "Laudate Dominum," a beautifully gentle aria for solo soprano, often performed independently in concert.

It is a work that is both majestic and intimate, representative of Mozart's liturgical maturity before his move to Vienna.

Dynamic and eclectic, the Helios orchestra has made its mark since its creation in 2014.

Its artistic director, Paul Savalle, promotes the professional integration of young musicians through orchestral practice. Thus, recent graduates mingle with experienced orchestral musicians, conductors, and soloists in optimal working conditions.

From Baroque to contemporary music, the programs are varied. As for the repertoire, it is both symphonic and choral, with the orchestra joining forces with departmental and regional choirs.

Thanks to the collaboration of various conductors, the musicians tackle a very rich repertoire, broadening their interpretive range. They all come from major French conservatories, some belonging to a national orchestra.

From string quartets to symphony orchestras, including brass ensembles, the orchestra continually expands its audience by adapting its composition. String ensembles perform in picturesque locations unsuitable for a full symphony orchestra, allowing audiences to discover a rich architectural heritage.

In short, thanks to its variable geometry formation, the Helios orchestra approaches a wider repertoire with passionate curiosity.
Don't miss the incredible performance of the Helios Orchestra in Parisian churches
