The Royal Monastery of Brou in Bourg-en-Bresse, built in the 16th century by Margaret of Austria, Regent of the Netherlands, is the masterpiece she envisioned to perpetuate her glory and the love she bore for her husband, Philibert the Fair, Duke of Savoy. The church is a richly ornamented Flamboyant Gothic jewel: tombs, altarpiece, statues, and choir stalls are all examples of 16th-century Flemish sculpture. In Margaret's apartments, multimedia tools and works of art bring the story of this European princess to life. Explore ten centuries of paintings and works of art in the museum and conclude your visit by discovering the three monumental cloisters with their high galleries.
