Guided tour: Paris of crime… and punishment, through the centuries
To bookDescription
The Paris of crime... and punishment, through the ages. Before becoming the City of Lights, Paris, and particularly its center, was a maze of dark and unsettling alleyways, ideally suited to crime. It is this dark side that you are invited to revisit.

From the old Cemetery of the Innocents to the old Place de Grève, a major site of public executions until the 19th century, the route is punctuated by political or sordid assassinations, sordid crimes, and cruel and varied punishments that have bloodied the Parisian pavement and spanned eras and societies.

The courts of miracles that terrified passersby have disappeared, as have the sinister dens and cutthroats. Justice has—thankfully—evolved. But the charm and poetry of old Paris, which we will explore together, remain. They too have survived the centuries and will be very much present between two macabre evocations of very diverse events.
